The Clayground, a paint it yourself Ceramic Painting Studio, was a delight to come across last week! This is definitely one of Calgary's hidden treasures. It is a great place to go for a "mental escape" - something that everyone could use every once in a while. They offer over 250 different unpainted ceramic pieces in the studio ready to paint. There's everything from small kitchen accessories to a full place setting of tableware including plates, bowls, cups, saucers and serving platters. Children are also a big part of The Clayground - and they come to enjoy painting everything from jewelry boxes, money banks and "googly fish". to large dragon sculptures or a special serving bowl for their cat or dog.

When you first walk into the Clayground you will notice that the selection is overwhelming. According to Annabel (one of the proud owners at The Clayground), "Many customers spend 20-30 minutes just looking at our shelves - and that's exactly what we want them to do! It's all part of the calming experience. You just can't turn off the daily stresses of life in 2 minutes. It seems that too many people have forgotten how to relax."

Once the customer selects the piece they want to paint, staff on hand to will help them on their way to creating their masterpiece. According to Annabel - "you don't need to be an artist to create something you will be proud of". The Clayground has lots of finished pieces on display as well as idea books that you can browse through that will get the creative juices flowing. With over 65 "lead free" paint colors to pick from, there is sure to be a color that will match everyone's home décor. After you finish your piece, the staff at The Clayground takes over. They will apply a clear glaze and fire your piece in one of the kiln's located in the studio. Your masterpiece is ready for pick up in 5 - 7 days.

Pricing at The Clayground is as simple as it can be. The price you see marked on the ceramics is the last price you pay. There are no extra fees for studio time, glazing or firing. And best of all - there's no rush to finish your piece! If you want, you can leave your unfinished piece with them and come back as many times as you want over the next 90 days to complete your project 'all at no extra cost!

Groups are also welcome at The Clayground. If you are having a Team Building session, event wind-up or just a group get-together - give them a call. When groups larger than 5 paint together, The Clayground offers a discount of 10%. You can even "Invade The Clayground" with 15 painters on a Saturday or Sunday evening from 6-9 PM. Bring your friends, food, beverages and music - they will supply a great venue to have a lot of fun - and NO charge for the studio!
